It's Steven KingHe considers this his "magnum opus". I first read The Drawing of The 3 while deployed in the middle east over 25 years ago. The Gunslinger wasn't available to read at the time and afterwards life just took me in other directions. I recently purchased the entire set and I am in the process of reading them all. The writing changes a little through the series but then again Stephen King was growing up, growing as a writer, honing his craft so to speak throughout the process of writing this series.It is obviously King, but a different side of him that melds Tolkien type Fantasy and Cormac McCarthy type Western with a King suspense and flare for for the descriptive creating environments and scenarios you can picture vividly playing out in your own mind. I would say thus far the writing reminds me of an unrefined version of The Dark Half.If you enjoy King, his writing style and descriptive nature, you will more than likely enjoy these books. King himself admits the first couple of books were written when he was young, a little arrogant and cocky, as we all are when we are young, and the writing in these is reflective of him at that age. You can definitely see his writing style develop throughout the series and perhaps even follow his progression as a writer along the way.I hope that at least a few of you find this review helpful, that it may help encourage you to read the series and discover a different side of one of my favorite authors. Story is incredible, writing is King 100%. Grew up reading these plus The Stand, Night Shift, Different Seasons, etc.Unfortunately the Kindle version does not support all of the features as-advertised.Just a warning that it does not support different typefaces (Amazon Ember, Futura, etc.), though it does support most of the other adjustments like margins and spacing.
